Pet Tips

Thinking of buying or selling a home?  As a pet owner and Realtor I understand your needs.  I have some valuable tips for both buyers and sellers.
Selling A Pet-friendly Property
Here are a few important tips to help make your property more attractive to potential buyers when preparing to sell a pet-friendly home.

Vacuuming

Vacuum and clean your carpets (even your furniture) on a regular basis to remove pet hair, dander and odors.

Carpet & Floor Pet Stains

Hire professionals to remove stains. If the stains cannot be removed, it’s best to replace the floor coverings.

De-clutter Your Home

Be sure to pick up your pet’s toys, beds, and food & water bowls when not in use.

Pick Up After Your Pets

It’s wise to keep your yard clean and free of pet waste at all times.

Keep Litter Boxes Clean

Keep the litter box in a well ventilated area and clean it often. Consider an odor-reducing kitty litter too.

Pet Odors and Smells

Do not use air fresheners to address pet odors. Try enzyme cleaners such as Simple Solution or Natures Miracle.

Have A Plan For Open Houses

Some people are terrified of animals or even allergic. It is best to remove your pet from your home during a showing or an open house.

You might consider keeping your pet in a crate or better still arrange for doggie daycare or ask a friend or relative to pet sit.

Please ask me about my contribution to doggie daycare or pet sitting during the first couple of weeks in the marketing of your home.

Buying A Pet-Friendly Home.

As your pet-friendly realtor, I am knowledgeable about what you will want to consider in a property. After all, your home needs to be suitable for you, as well as your pet.

Here are a few questions to consider when looking for a new home:

  • What type of yard are you looking for, fenced and size?
  • Does the type of street you live on matter
  • If you have an older pet do you want to avoid a lot of stairs?
  • How hot will your home get in the summer and is there a basement or somewhere cool for your dog during the day if you do not have air conditioning?
  • Is there an area to keep pet crates without cluttering up the house?
  • How big are the rooms and is there enough space for the pet beds?
  • Do your potential neighbors have pets?
Moving Day.

You have found your new home and now it is time to pack up and move.Whether you are moving across town, across country or from another country – you have a big task ahead of you.Preparation is key to a successful move, keeping your pet’s safety in mind:

Identification

Rule #1 in moving with your pet is properly identifying your pet with an identification tag and sturdy collar.Make sure to include your new address and telephone phone numbers. If chipped - be sure to update the info.

Medications, Food and Health Records

Keep a current copy of your pet’s vaccinations in a convenient location and not packed away in the moving truck.Consult your veterinarian about ways that might lessen the stress of moving.

Crates and Containment Systems

There are many different types of travel crates on the market just for traveling purposes.Make sure your pet is familiar with the crate you will be using for transportation by gradually introducing him to the crate before your trip.

Keeping Your Pet Secure

Pets can feel vulnerable on moving day. your peta safe, quiet place, such as the bathroom on moving day with a PETS INSIDE sign on the door to keep off-limits to friends and professional movers or better still arrange for your pet to spend the day at the vet, doggie day care or at a friend or relative.

Preparing Your New Home

Keep in mind that your pets may be frightened and confused in new surroundings. To reduce the chance of escaping due to fear, or pure excitement to explore the new territory, prepare all the familiar and necessary things your pet will need from day one including food, water, medications, bed, litter box and water bowls.
